Phone systems, by vendor.

The major call handling platforms used in 911 communications centers, the software dispatchers and call-takers actually answer calls on. Looking for the broader data and device-integration layer around 911, things like RapidSOS? That's a different category: see 911 Technologies.

The vendors

Motorola Solutions

VESTA 9-1-1 (opens in new tab)

The most widely deployed call handling platform in the US. Motorola states it answers more than 65% of all 911 calls nationwide. VESTA 360 handles voice, text, video, and location in one view.

Intrado

VIPER (opens in new tab)

Intrado's flagship call handling system, NENA i3 compliant. Available on-premises or as a hosted cloud service (VIPER as a Service). Formerly sold under the Comtech name, now fully under Intrado branding.

CentralSquare Technologies

Vertex NG911 Call Handling (opens in new tab)

CentralSquare's call handling product. A natural pairing for agencies already using CentralSquare's CAD. Handles voice, text, video, and location in one platform.

Solacom

Guardian 9-1-1 Call Handling (opens in new tab)

Built from separate modules (Guardian Map, Guardian Text, Guardian MIS) rather than one bundled system, so agencies can add pieces as needed. Long track record in both legacy and IP-based call handling.

Carbyne

Carbyne APEX (opens in new tab)

Cloud-native, and leans hard into live video streamed directly from a caller's phone as its main differentiator. Newer to the market than the legacy vendors above.

NGA 911

NGA 911 Platform (opens in new tab)

Built cloud-native from the ground up rather than a legacy on-prem system adapted for the cloud. Covers everything from call intake through dispatch.
